Erik Fransén

Professor in Computer Science at KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Erik Fransén holds a BSc in Physics from Uppsala University 1987 and a Ph.D in Computer science from Stockholm University, 1996. During the following years, Fransén held a position as Post doctoral fellow at the Department of Psychology at Harvard University, Cambridge, USA. From 2012 his position is Professor in Computer Science at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Franséns research focuses on how properties of diseased neurons (dysregulated ion channels) can be changed towards more healthy functions by applying ion channel medication. These methods are applied to epilepsy and pain. Fransén also studies how the brain performs functions like working memory (short-term memory) and how nerve cells respond when activated by synchronous input from other nerve cells. Franséns lab is also affiliated with Stockholm Brain Institute.
