Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Stockholm University, is a Swedish researcher working on the assembly and structure of membrane proteins. He is head of the Stockholm Center for Biomembrane Research at Stockholm University and Scientific Director at the Science for Life Laboratory. von Heijne is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1997 and was a member of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry from 2001 to 2009, and the Committees chairman from 2007 to 2009. He was awarded his Master of Science degree in Chemistry at the Royal Institute of Technology in 1975 and received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the same university five years later.
