Looking to the stars - unlocking the mysteries of the universe

September 30, 2015
The new space age is here – and it´s quite different from the previous space heyday of the 60s and 70s. We are possibly on the brink of explaining huge areas in astroparticle physics like dark matter and the earliest stages of the birth of the universe. At the same time we are seeing a renewed interest in space technology, both from the private and the public sector.

How can we continue to explore the universe with the technology and theoretical frameworks emerging today? How do hands on research into spaceflight interact with theoretical physics? And what are the next milestones in understanding the universe and our place in it?

Guests in the studio:
Katherine Freese, Theoretical Astrophysicist, Professor of Physics at Stockholm University and Director of the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (NORDITA),
Christer Fuglesang, ESA astronaut, Adjunct Professor in Space Physics and Director of KTH Space Center at KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Ariel Goobar, Professor of Experimental Particle Astrophysics at Stockholm University and director of the Oskar Klein Centre.

On Skype: Kim Stanley Robinson, Bestselling American science fiction writer, author of the Mars trilogy

Crosstalks is an international academic talk show broadcast once a month as a joint venture produced by Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The idea is to be a platform for academic discussions on current research and global challenges, in an open and on-going dialogue with viewers around the world. The programme is relaxed, with a twinkle in its eye, just like a good, engaging lecture, moderated by the well-known journalist Johanna Koljonen.
